Newbies to blogging find it easy to start a blog as sites like Blogger and Wordpress make it very easy to do so. Having started a blog they find it difficult to add content. So they copy and paste from other sites which is also very easy to do. What they do not understand is that all blogs are monitored or crawled constantly by search engines. It is only a matter of time before they are caught.

Technorati is a search engine specializing in blogs. It crawls blogs and indexes their contents. If your blog has a link to any other site it is shown as a ‘reaction’ to that site. To see ‘reactions’ to your blogspot blog on Technorati.com go to :

http://www.technorati.com/blogs/MYBLOG.blogspot.com?reactions

Replace MYBLOG with actual name of your blog. A link to your blog in a post is shown along with an excerpt of the post. Reading through the excerpt you will immediately recognize it as some text from your blog. This is also why you should link to your old posts. When the post is copied these links appear and are indexed and appear as a ‘reaction’. Here is an excerpt copied from my blog which appeared as a Technorati reaction :

to read the rest of the post. For our purpose we need only the titles of the posts so this also serves our interests. Then we need the URL of the feed. For beta blogs the RSS feed URL is : http://yourblogname.blogspot.com/feeds/posts/default?alt=rss Read Full Story

The person or robot which scraped the story from my blog did not remove the link ‘Read Full Story’ and it appeared as a Technorati reaction which I monitored. Blog authors monitor such things daily to protect their copyright.
