Do not Create Website Farms!

Both Blogger and Wordpress offer free facilities to create blogs. Taking advantage of this many newbie bloggers create many blogs or sites and fill them with auto generated content from feed scraping programs. They then add these blogs in their blogroll on each blog hoping to generate backlinks to each blog. This type of practice is called link spamming and Google and other search engines are aware of it. Reciprocal links are not considered by Google in calculating Page Rank.
Considering the time taken to maintain and update even one blog it is not ideal to have so many sites. Let us see what tasks are necessary to maintain a blog or a site :
1. Update blog content – It is necessary to add a blog post at least three to four times weekly. To come up with an original blog post one has to think up a topic and compose and publish it.
2. Publicize Blog – Online forums in your expertise is one method where you can publicize your blog link in your signature. Other methods like frequenting social networking sites and submitting blog posts also take time.
3. Visiting other blogs in your field and posting constructive comments on them.
4. Staying updated in your field of knowledge and reading the latest advances.
5. Helping out in your blog community.
6. Monetizing your blog and looking for additional income avenues.
7. Monitoring your website statistics and analyzing them to further optimize your site.
8. Monitoring your subscribers and their responses.
9. Reading other blog feeds and subscribing to latest information sources.
10. Modifying your blog template to make it load faster and reflect the latest site trends.
What are the other tasks you feel important to maintain your site/blog? Make your suggestions in the comments

Hi Vinnie,
How do we get rid of our excess bogs/ I have one on Wordpress and one on Blogger I want to eliminate.
When I first was setting up my blog, I created one on WordPress and one on Blogger. I soon realized I like Blogger better. But I don’t know how to uncreate the Word Press blog.
Then last weekend someone asked me a question about setting up a Blogger blog. So to answer the question, I went through the steps again. I had to make up a name, etc to get to the next screens. But then I couldn’t figure out how to undo it after I was done. At least I found that I could hide it on my blogger profile so that goffy name doesn’t show.
Perpetua,
See How to delete Blogger blogs?
In Wordpress the Delete Blog section of Settings lets you delete the blog.
